Neymar’s potential return to Barcelona is now in danger of collapsing with Josep Maria Bartomeu increasingly frustrated by the demands of PSG, according to ESPN. The two clubs have been locked in talks for several weeks over the return of Neymar, who has so far not featured for the French club this season. Neymar is keen on a return to the Camp Nou after just two seasons.
The Brazilian striker made the €222 million switch to PSG in the summer of 2017. However, his time at the Parc Des Princes has not been entirely happy and his form has also suffered as a result. The player is now keen on a return to the Camp Nou where had some of his best days in European football. However, there is a huge discrepancy in the demand of PSG and the offer from Barca.
Barca are understood to have offered €150 million as a transfer for the player along with a €30 million loan fee. After having spent lavishly in the summer, it is difficult for the Catalans to meet the Financial Fairplay Regulations without a loan deal.
PSG, meanwhile, had been pushing for a fee closer to the €222m paid in 2017. After understanding the Barcelona will simply not be able to afford the deal, the latest demand from the French club is for players plus cash. PSG are requesting around €130 million in transfer fees along with three players in order to sell Neymar, who still has three years left on his contract. These demands appear to have brought about an impasse in the talks.
The three players demanded by PSG are Jean-Clair Todibo, Ivan Rakitic, and Ousmane Dembele. Out of these three players, PSG are requesting for a permanent transfer of Todibo and Rakitic, while Dembele should be sent on a one-year loan deal. However, these demands have faced opposition from almost every corner.
Barcelona are not willing to let three players leave in return for just one. This is especially due to the lack of time to sign replacements. Furthermore, all three players are understood not to be in favour of a move to the French capital.
The transfer window shuts down on September 2 and it is increasingly unlikely that a deal may be reached before then. At this moment, Barcelona have the noses ahead of Real Madrid, who have also made a surprise entry into the picture. Madrid’s offer has largely been about offering a number of surplus players like Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez along with a decent amount of cash. However, they are increasingly conceding defeat in the race since Neymar favours a return to the Camp Nou.
The initial offer from Barcelona had Phillipe Coutinho and Rakitic along with €80 million. PSG may be ruing the decision to skip this deal. Coutinho has since moved to Bayern Munich on a loan deal. The Brazilian would have been a direct replacement for Neymar on the left side of the attacking three.
If a deal is not reached, Neymar could end up with the biggest problem of all parties.
