L’Equipe, the prestigious French newspaper, published on Tuesday that Laurent Blanc is the favorite to take charge of Barcelona next season. Blanc’s name is preferred by Eric Abidal, director of Barça, and led by him in the selection. His style of play, based on possession, is one of the assets for the former defender to take over Quique Setién.
Blanc would be the name to give “stability” to the Catalan dressing room, soon after public criticism from Lionel Messi and the loss of the Spanish title to Real Madrid.
If the negotiations go ahead, the intention is to sign a short, one-season contract. That’s because the idea of the Barcelona board is to bring Xavi Hernandéz from the summer of 2021 when the former midfielder and club idol will be free from Al-Sadd.
